On June 4th PAWS
received a call about an injured Min Pin in desperate need of rescue.
Evidently, the dog was hit by a car. A good Samaritan took the dog to
the emergency clinic, but since no one took responsibility for the cost
of the emergency care, the dog was sent to the shelter and he was about
to be euthanized.
Luckily, the shelter rescue coordinator contacted us. We took the dog
out with the intention of providing him with the care and treatments he
needs. Initial diagnosis was: internal injuries, nerve damage and
fractured hip. After x-rays were done, we found out that he has a
shattered pelvis. Unfortunately, the dog was also diagnosed with
Heartworms.
We named the dog- Rocky, because we knew he was a fighter. We were going
to do whatever it takes to make Rocky better.
Donations to help Rocky will be greatly appreciated!
Grant is an 18 months old Great Dane. He has a spinal injury which requires an expensive LS surgery (Lumbosacral Stenosis ). His owner could not afford the surgery, so he turned him into the shelter to be euthanized.
Luckily for Grant, the shelter rescue director contacted our rescue. Seeing Grant at the shelter was heartbreaking. He was very skinny, at least 40 Lb. underweight and he had hard time walking. But in spite of his bad shape and obvious pain, Grant walked very slowly and greeted us with a low howl, as if he was saying “Hellooow, can you pleeeese help me?”. That was all it took. Grant made it out of the shelter- alive.
Grant was taken to the specialty hospital where he had x-rays and a CT scan. It was determine that he has a severe infection in the spine which caused bone damage effecting the nerves. The surgeon said that it was the worse she has ever seen. Grant was put on meds and sent to foster care.
After a few weeks in foster care, Grant has gained 22 Lb. Follow-up x-rays show that the medication is working and the infection is better, but scar tissue is putting pressure on the nerves, which causing Grant a lot of pain.
On July 29th Grant had a spinal surgery (Laminectomy) which we hope will relieve the pressure off the entrapped nerve and will cease the pain.
Donations to help with Grant's veterinary care (meds, x-rays, CT scans, surgery) will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
This dog was rescued from the Waco shelter. He was turned in by a breeder. He is only 8 months old and all he has known in his short life is pain and misery. He is very underweight and he has a severe case of Mange.
Need donations to help with treatments.
