If you are looking for a wonderful pet to add
to your family, you have come to the right place. Please view the dogs
we have available for adoption on our
Dogs
page and on our
Petfinder site. We ask all applicants to complete
an
Adoption Application and to agree to
the terms set out in our
Animal Adoption Contract.
Our adoption services:
Most of the dogs that are brought into our rescue are in need of
extensive veterinary care as a result of previous abuse and neglect. We
put all efforts to conduct a full behavior evaluation, as well as health
assessment. We provide our dogs with vaccinations, deworming, Heartworm
test , flea treatment and a microchip. All dogs are spayed/neutered
prior to adoption. Furthermore, 70% of the dogs we gets are Heartworm
positive and do require a treatment, which of course is very expensive.
Some dogs have additional medical needs, all of which receive the
treatments and surgeries they need. It is our mission to ensure that our
animals are both happy and healthy before they make the transition into
their new forever home.
Adoption Fees:
PAWS of Austin endeavors to keep our adoption fee as low
as possible. We would like to express our gratitude to our vets who go
above and beyond in their efforts to offer us low cost medical service.
This helps us keep our expenses minimal and adoption fees are lower than
most other rescue organizations. For example: The Great Dane Rescue in
CA charges $495-$995 for their dogs. Our adoption fee is only
$200, even
though our expenses are much greater than that. The adoption fees help
us recover some of the expenses we accrue, although the adoption fees
only cover a third of the expenses we have. Fortunately we have
supporters who donate to us, so we are able to continue saving innocent
lives.
If you still think that the adoption fees are too high, please

"Are Rescue Adoption Fees Too
High?" by Joan Freemo.
Before you start:
As much as we love to see our dogs adopted into new
homes, we are careful to ensure that dogs are matched with the
appropriate home to eliminate the possibility of it being returned to
our program and having to endure the stress of abandonment once again.
Before adopting a pet, please make sure that it is the right pet for you
and your family and that you are willing to make the commitment to take
care of this animal for
the rest of it's life. We would recommend that
you have a family meeting to discuss this important decision. If you
already own a pet, we would have to make sure that your pet is
spayed/neutered and current on all vaccinations. We also recommend
introducing the animals to each other on neutral grounds before taking
it into your home to make sure there is not going to be contention
between the animals. If you rent your property, we would ask that you
talk to your landlord or property management to ensure that you are
allowed to have an inside pet. If you live out of town, make sure that
you are ready and able to come to Austin. Please do not apply if you are
unable to come to a meet-n-greet within the next two weeks.
